I hope you can help me Matt!!! This is my situation… I”ve had a website for 3 months now,through SMC and have 0 visitors. It is a non e-commerce site,so I have no control of it I can”t even put a site meter on it.I tried but it won”t save it on my home page.I”m listed on google #1 however,the heading is “gift cards” not nix-nax-shax. I”ve read TONS of info on-line,including Shawn Casey”s 27 days to incredible internet profits…and Ron Davies 11 days to limitless traffic.I”m not that computer literate,but I do have 2 years of college so I”m no DUMMY It just seems so complicated and overwhelming There is so many websites and each has 1000 different options @ 1000 different prices I simply have NO IDEA after reading all this info. for 3 months where to START. I hurt my back 6 months ago and have no income right now.I”m trying to find the right place to start with little or no money to get traffic so I can re-invest I”m flat broke,HUNGRY and almost homeless I”d be more than happy to pay,BUUUUT EVERYONE WANTS $ before they can prove that they CAN BRING ME TRAFFIC.I thought that in the world marketplace PEOPLE WORK 1ST THEN GET PAID Joint ventures seem to work this way,However my site MUST be successful 1st.I”m subscribed to ineedhits.com and engineseekers.com and they have not brought me any traffic.Please Help me,if you can Shawn tells me all the things to do and I pretty much understand what he”s talking about,BUUUT I don”t know exactly how to implement these things step by step on the computer. Believe it or not I get emails like this all the time. People are broke, hurt, need money yesterday, don’t know scratch about internet marketing. Here is the truth. Internet marketing is a skill, a new trade. You have to learn the basics. There is no such thing as easy money. You have to learn this new profession and it takes time. I believe it is a profession that is well worth the time and effort.
The first thing you need to do is learn how to make a basic website. Nothing complicated just a simple web page. It can be white background with blue links. Ironically this is what usually sells best, simple. Check out the web design on Google.com or Paypal. Very simple.
Next you need to learn how to use an ftp program and how to reserve your own domain name and get your own web hosting account for YOUR own website.
If is very hard to make money with all these generic self replicated websites. I CAN but you can’t. Do you know why? Because I already have my own sites and lists that I have built up over years or hard work. The point is that my websites drive traffic to the affiliate offers.
Once you have your website you need to have an autoresponder system
like Getresponse or Aweber. You need to build your own list. This is critical.
I am not going to explain all of this because you can do searches on Google for “how to….” anything and find tons of info. If you are not willing to do this much research on your new profession then you will never make it anyway. Nobody every showed me anything. I learned it all by screwing up. However, I am trying to point you in the right direction.
The most important characteristic for an internet marketer is persistence. I have had so many failures that is has almost become normal to fail. I just keep going and going. You have to be hard headed. If you get frustrated easily and give up you will not make it.
Here is a tip on how to beat the big guys. Put your phone number on your website and answer the phone yourself. The one thing the big guys cannot provide is personal service. Whatever you decide to sell make sure people can actually talk to you about it on the phone and give them top notch personal service. You will whip guru butt big time with this!
You might consider selling larger ticket items and services on the phone. I just got this Magicjack phone and it works perfectly. It plugs into your usb port with a $19. Radio shack phone and costs next to nothing per year for unlimited Canada and US calls.
Hey if you are broke think of something to sell and start calling people. I used to work in a telemarketing room and we made 300 calls per day. You are bound to sell something.
I know this is kind of hardcore but I think you should know the truth. Everyone else is telling you that internet marketing is easy, just plug in and it is all automatic, make money 15 minutes from now etc. Yes, it is true if you are like me with established websites and traffic but if you are just starting you need to start where we did and build up. The good news is that if you are willing to work hard and learn there are unlimited opportunities in this field. It is very exciting.
